The 22 toothed front chain wheel in combination with the 36 toothed rear cassette gives more climbing range with a ratio of 0.61:1 rather than the traditional 0.67:1 with a 24 toothed front chain wheel. Not many bicycles are made in Germany nowadays and the quality shows. I also own a Scott and nowadays these are made in Asia. In terms of quality it is not a patch on the Corratec. It is also quite light for a sub-€1,000 bicycle.
The problems I experienced with this bicycle were a series of punctures in the rear tyre. The tube was tearing around the valve area. Normally, this is due to the valve washer being screwed too tightly or the valve itself being dislodged and left at an angle upon inflation. Unusually, in this case, this was due to the tyre moving along the rim of the wheel dragging the tube with it and tearing it at the valve. A change of tyre cured the problem.
In my time, I have owned 2 Raleighs (Stratos and Royale), 1 Cinzia Marathon Jumpertrek, 1 Scott E-Sub 20 and 1 Torpado Zona Blu but the Corratec is easily the best.
