Review

The Scott CR1 was originally the bike manufacturers pro level bike until being replaced by the aerodynamic Foil. Since then this particular bike has been adjusted to suit the sportive or Gran Fondo crowd by introducing more comfortable angles to the geometry. Don't be mistaken though, this is not a super relaxed road bike for old people; the head tube is taller for a more upright riding position, yet elsewhere the bike still cries "race me!"

On the HMF NET Carbon frame, Scott has added the SDS (shock damping system) which introduces compliance (vertical flex) while improving resistance to lateral forces. The outcome is stiffness and comfort. This is exemplified by some riders opting for the team version of this frame over the super stiff Foil in cobbled races like Paris-Roubaix.

As expected at this price you get a healthy collection of Shimano 105 and Tiagra components. These perform flawlessly in every situation and are a fine addition to such a top notch frame.

Also seen on most new Scott bikes are Syncros parts. It is nice to see a carbon seatpost equipped at this level and will help with comfort when the road gets rough. I have noticed some people critisizing the Syncros saddle though, you might want to check it out for yourself.

Overall riding this bike is a real pleasure. It has a healthy mix of comfort for the weekend warrior out there and a racy position to get down and quick when the boys sprint for the line.

This bike would be a great purchase also if you are looking for a good bike to keep for a while and upgrade as you get more into the sport.
