Features | C9-12: Our C 9-12 System separates the suspension from braking forces, allowing maximized traction and control under heavy braking. The Orbea C 9-12 system is based around a suspension design that features a rear pivot that is concentric with the rear axle. It allows true separation of braking forces from the swingarm; the seat stays act as a brake floater, much like systems used in motorcycle and auto racing to optimize traction under heavy braking. With the rear wheel following the ground more effectively, you’ll have more control and more confidence in edge-of-control situations. We made sure to provide compatibility for multiple axle systems (QR and 12x142mm) so you can choose whichever you prefer. Direct Post Mount: The Direct Post Mount offers simpler and cleaner brake integration. This means better performance, less maintenance, and lower weight. The Orbea Direct Post Mount design allows the direct attachment of your rear brake caliper to the mount on the bike frame. Without the addition of an adapter, you’ll benefit from a lighter, stronger system that provides better braking performance and less maintenance. And with no potential for unwanted movement in the system, this virtually eliminates brake chatter and squealing produced by harmonics that can develop in the stacked pieces of typical adapter systems and that can radiate throughout the bike frame. Sealed Ball Bearings: The ideal suspension would be free from friction. Our Sealed Ball Bearings keep your bike operating as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Our bikes have as many as ten Sealed Ball Bearings. The benefit is terrific sensitivity to bump input from the trail. After all, bike suspensions are designed to move in order to absorb energy to keep your wheel on the ground for traction and control and to give you more comfort. This is why we use sealed cartridge bearings rather than bushings. We even add bearings to the rear shock mount, and this is part of our secret to performance. It makes a difference - it keeps the bike stiff and sensitive, and it reduces friction even though it’s an ultra-compact system and doesn’t add unnecessary weight. Tapered Head Tube: The Tapered Head Tube is the foundation that provides stiffness and stability for precise handling in all conditions. The forces acting on a head tube can be extreme, especially at high speeds or over rough surfaces. Our Tapered Head Tube provides improved rigidity and steering precision. All of our bikes that use the tapered system get a 1-1/8 to 1-1/2” bearing system. We’ve found that this dimension offers the best balance of weight, function, and durability. The Tapered Head Tube is also a principle element of our frame designs, whether in carbon or hydroformed aluminum, that provides greater stiffness and stability by allowing larger tube junctures at the front of the bike where stresses are high. |
