Review
Jamis has followed the trend of every other bike manufacturer by adding an "endurance" model to their road bike line-up, not surprisingly called the "Endura" range! The Elite model is the top of the range of the Xenith bikes till you cross into the more race inspired versions.
Endurance bikes are typically a bit taller in the head tube which translates into a more upright, and comfortable riding position. The Endura's also have a longer wheelbase and relaxed frame geometry which helps keep the bike balanced and stable on long rides.
The Xenith bikes have a reputation for good value and this bike continues the theme. I love it when companies use "complete" groupsets, (Shimano Ultegra 11spd here), including cassette and chain, although the Elite is missing the brake calipers. These have been replaced by long-reach TRP units which are designed to accommodate the wider tires often found on endurance bikes. The Endura Elite comes with 25mm Rubino tires but because of these brakes can handle up to 28mm.
Components elsewhere are also commendable. Solid Shimano RS61 wheels which can take tubeless tires and a mix of FSA, Ritchey and a Selle San Marco saddle round out the cockpit. All quality reliable stuff. The weight of the complete bike sits just under 8kg which isn't super light, but spot on for a mid-range "fondo" bike.
In all, the Jamis Xenith Endura Elite is the perfect bike for a semi-serious road cyclist to do some century rides, fondos or even a club race. It is a simple bike that benefits from a good design and well thought out component package.
The Jamis Xenith Endura Elite is a well thought-out bike for the endurance rider. It uses a higher head tube that will suit riders who like to go long, or don't want a super aggressive Tour de France style position. Jamis use the latest in carbon fiber technology to produce a super lightweight and stiff frame. Beautifully spec'd with a full Shimano Ultegra 11spd groupset and finished off with parts from Vittoria, Ritchey and Selle San Marco for the ultimate endurance machine
