Review
The composite XTC frame is another beautiful creation of carbon fibre by the masters at Giant. Even though this is an entry level 29er you wouldn't know it at first glance 'cause its looks ooze quality and class. So is this to be another stand out pushy from the biggest bike manufacturer in the world?...well, yes....and no.
The frame is another masterpiece to be sure. It rides typically like you expect from an XTC: fast, nimble, a bit touchy...and not particularly comfortable. But then this is Giant's hardtail MTB race frame so you would expect that right?
The let down of this bike is probably the value. The components are a little behind when compared with what you get from other brands. The fork and wheels are a bit weighty for XC use and the drivetrain is entry level. An X5 shifter pod? C'mon Giant you can do better than that for $2,000!
The frame is the standout with this bike and that may be why the components are weak. For the weekend warrior thinking of tackling some short course cross country races this could be good starting point, but there are also many other brands offering race bikes with better spec for not many $$ more.
The stability and control of a 29er, but with zero compromises in speed and quickness. Built with Giant Composite technology, and meticulously engineered to optimize the larger diameter wheels, this versatile hardtail uses Giant’s signature overized MegaDrive downtube and toptube combination for supreme chassis stiffness. The OverDrive 2 steerer tube produces quick, precise steering. And the asymmetrical chainstays, paired with a PowerCore bottom bracket, boost traction and acceleration.
