Features | Evolved Steerer Design: Different frame designs call for different Steerer dimensions. We use the right dimension in the right application.
The diameter of your fork steerer has a noticeable effect on how your bike performs. Evolved Steerer Design applies the best steerer diameters and taper design to achieve the goals of that specific model.
A larger steerer diameter adds torsional stiffness with no weight penalty. A smaller steerer diameter is more compliant and can also be used to reduce head tube frontal area, and therefore, overall aerodynamic drag.
How do we select which one to use? By defining performance goals – weight savings, aerodynamics, stiffness, comfort, and usability -- at the start of the frame design process, Cervélo engineers can choose the best steerer diameters/tapers to help achieve those objectives.
Squoval: Squoval is a library of square/oval tube shapes developed to offer a wide variety of potential combinations and mechanical properties.
Square shapes are best to resist bending (side-to-side flex). Round shapes are best to resist torsion (twisting flex). Since different frame tubes see a variable mix of bending and torsional loads, a careful combination of these shapes can offer the best of both worlds.
Cervélo engineers further refine the Squoval concept by ‘dialling in’ the combination of these properties to best resist the specific bending and torsional loads in various areas of the frame. In areas where bending resistance is critical, Squoval shapes are more square; where torsion is high, the Squoval shape tends toward an oval. The family of Squoval shapes also takes into account aerodynamic shaping, adding a touch of aerodynamic benefits to a Squoval frame.
The benefit: The Squoval family of tube shapes allows us to dial in weight-saving, aero, stiffness and compliance properties desired for each area of the frame.
Future-Proof Cable Management: Future-Proof Cable Management achieves compatibility across mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic brake and derailleur systems. Currently, Future-Proof frames include interchangeable cable stops that snap into the frame and are easily swapped out by hand to accommodate upgrades.
The benefit: One frame, any system. You can buy with confidence, knowing your bike is easily upgradable and can be enjoyed with the latest technology for years to come.
BB Right: ASYMMETRIC 79MM BOTTOM BRACKET
BBright is an asymmetric 79mm bottom bracket standard. We developed BBright as an open standard to achieve a lighter and stiffer frame and crank system while maintaining compatibility with many common crank and crank-based power metre options.
BBright benefits from the oversize effect: oversized frame tubes are stiffer and lighter. On the right side, frame tubes are already as wide as possible: any wider and they’d hit the chain rings. But on the left side there are no chain rings. BBright makes use of this extra space to extend the bottom bracket shell 11 millimetres, nearly doubling the width of the left chain stay; the combination makes BBright frames significantly stiffer *and* somewhat lighter.
At the same time, drive side dimensions of the frame are identical to BB30 and allow plenty of clearance for a wide range of cranks, including those with power metres.
The benefit: BBright improves system stiffness in a lighter-weight frame using commonly available parts that are easy to service.
Reduced-Friction BB Guide: The bottom bracket cable guide is crucial to proper shifting. The Cervélo Reduced-Friction BB Guide maintains a consistent curve for each cable path that avoids side bends or kinks. The result is significantly reduced friction, leading to easier setup, smoother shifting, and longer service intervals.
Carbon Dropout: Front and rear dropouts on a most Cervélo frames are designed to be strong to withstand clamping forces from quick releases where wheels attach to the frame. Tough compression-moulded carbon replaces traditional metal dropouts, offering equal or higher strength and durability. The result is a lighter frame and fork with no compromise in strength. |
