Brompton Bicycle, maker of the Brompton folding bike, is the UK's largest bicycle manufacturer. Andrew Ritchie founded the company in 1976 after designing and building the first model in his London flat. Still made in London today, Brompton manufactures over 40,000 bicycles each year. The company has grown steadily since the '80s. Today there are more than 1400 authorised stores in 45 countries around the world.

Each Brompton is hand-brazed. The substantial majority of parts are custom-made, primarily designed in-house. Meticulous attention to detail is paid throughout manufacture. The final bike is elegant, functions smoothly, and is built to last.

The Brompton folding bike is based on a single frame design, available in two models, stainless steel or 'superlight,' a stainless/titanium mix. The frame design has evolved steadily; today's model has a curved main tube, permitting the bike to be folded into a compact 56.5 × 54.5 × 25.0 cm package, with the seat serving as a handle.

Each build is customised with an extensive range of options, from handlebar and drivetrain to a frame-mounted front carrier and rolling wheels for transport when folded.
