Review

The Z3 is Felt's middle of the road endurance road bike and as such, could inspire a large audience of cyclists. The geometry of the bike is centered around "endurance" or all-day comfort, with a tall head tube which caters to riders less able to stretch down comfortably into an aggressive race position. The carbon frame and vibration reducing seat stays further help in reducing uncomfortable road feedback.

Component choice is worthy of a mention with the new Shimano Ultegra 11spd drivetrain taking center stage, along with the associated cassette and chain. These are brilliant performers although could be pricey to replace when that inevitable moment arrives. Felt have relied on FSA's Energy brake calipers, and while I would personally have preferred Ultegra here as well, by all accounts these are quality units with ample power in wet and dry conditions.

To meet such a good price there will always be a downside and in this case I would mention wheels. I like Shimano wheels, but the RS11, while solid and reliable, are still the entry level version. Fortunately the Z3 is a bike worthy of upgrading, and if you want a bit more zip (and a little less weight), this is a great place to start. Even though this is an endurance bike it would be served well by a lightweight set of hoops.

The Felt Z3 is a great value package with comfort and performance in equal measure. A great bike for the less aggressive rider with excellent components and superb long term upgrade-ability. We recommend checking it out.
