Review
Cytomax has been around a long time. Many new hydration products have come around since then, but Cytomax continues to have its fans. In 2018, Cytomax underwent a rebrand, getting a new logo and packaging and more prominently displaying the parent company info, Cytosport Brand, as part of a unification and simplification of their sports nutrition lineup.
The single serve packet makes it easy to fill a bottle and go. It's typical drink powder, not too fine, and the plastic (mylar?) pouches also keep the powder dry and free from cacking. It easily mixes into water.
Taste: I tried Tropical Fruit and it reminded me of Hawaiian Punch in flavor (that's good), but without the syrupy sugar taste; Cytomax is tasty without being too sweet. Of course, you could always add more powder to get more kick, or in this case, add another packet. I found the 90 calorie packet, recommended for 8-12 ounces of water, to be fine for a regular 20 oz water bottle.
Mouth Feel: Smooth and not sticky. You drink and enjoy. No aftertaste.
Performance: It's a straightforward hydration and energy drink, so you get 23 grams of carbs plus electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium). There isn't any caffeine or exotic ingredients — it's NSF Certified for Sport / Free of Banned Substances — making Cytomax an easy choice and good all-around ride drink.
