While many wheel designs sacrifice anything just to be lighter, the Crank Brothers Iodine 2 29er wheels are not willing to trade durability for weight, making them a great all-mountain choice. At 1930 grams per set, these wheels spin much faster than other sets at this level. Most noticeably, the CB twinpair spokes and gorgeous hubs, including a 20mm thru-axle front hub, provide all of the technology needed to tackle climbs and descents alike.
The Iodine 2's paired spokes terminate at a vertical ridge that runs the entire inner diameter of the disc only rim. Instead of drilling holes in the rim for nipples to sit in, the spokes are threaded into barrels that sit within the vertical ridge. While the use of a threaded barrel may negate any benefit of not using a heavy brass nipple at the rim, it does allow for a completely sealed rim bed for easy tubeless setup.
These wheels are some of the sturdiest in their class between the non drilled rim bed and the vertical ridge that runs completely around the rim. Further helping matters is the welded, not sleeved, rim joint. The 21 mm internal width is ideal for use with high volume 2.3"-2.5" tires that a lot of riders are using today.
